Description:
NNRy officials offered Harold Beem the position of Vice President and General Manager of the railroad, however the previous official, G.L. Hickey, refused to retire upon Beem's arrival. He was appointed General Superintendent on January 16, 1937 instead. On May 14, 1945 he was appointed the Vice President and General Manager and would be the last person to hold that title as the position was abolished with his retirement on January 1, 1952. When Beem took the offer to come to the NNRy he stipulated that H.M. Peterson come with him, Peterson would become General Superintendent following Beem's retirement.

Personal Biography:
Harold Beem was born October 12, 1887 to William and Amelia "Minnie" Beem, one of eight children. Harold married Mary Edna King in1913,when they were both living in Salt Lake City, they would have one daughter. In 1922 he was the superintendent of the Western Pacific, Eastern Division living in Elko, Nevada. He moved to Ely in 1937 at the request of the NNRy. In 1950 he lived in a neighborhood of fellow railroaders including Harry Fravel and Frederick Ricci. In 1952, after his retirement, Harold and Mary settled in Reno, Nevada. His death came on May 20, 1964 when he was 77years old.
