"Kennecott's newest development is the Veteran Pit west of the town of Kimberly. This pit, when developed will be 2,500 feet long, 1,500 feet wide and about 600 feet deep. It was started in October 1953, and the first 4,000,000 tons of waste material removed by December 31, 1953. This pit which is being developed with Consolidated Coppermines Corporation participating on a 20% basis as first engineered will yield approximately 20 million tons of copper ore."
