Building Location:
East Ely Yard
Historic Use:
Originally constructed and used as the temporary depot at Currie before being moved to McGill to serve as the temporary depot in that location. Moved to the East Ely Yard and adapted for use as the Chief Engineer's building. At this point a records vault was built on the side of the building (only the vault door remains). The engineering department was moved to another building in 1950 and the building was essentially gutted. A large garage door was added to the back and the building became a garage for tools and speeders.
Current Use:
Restored to its 1908 appearance on the exterior, the interior was repurposed as a crew bunkhouse and guest lodging. The building has four bedrooms, two bathrooms and a communal kitchen/living area.
Construction Date:
1906
Rebuild Date:
1950
Construction Method:
Measuring 30 by 40 feet, the building has a wood frame construction resting on timber sills. The exterior is of board-and-batten and it has double-hung wood sash windows. A small gabled roofed entrance, essentially a storm entrance, extends from the south end of the building.
