Alexander Lake was an employee of KCC, with 30 years of service from 1923-1953. His older brother Thomas was the Master Mechanic with the NNRy and upon his death, their older brother George was promoted to the position of Master Mechanic.
The 1940 and 1950 censuses of Ely, NV list Alex as conductor of the railroad. Another brother, Ray, was also employed with a railroad, but not the NNRy.
Alexander's son Keith G. Lake in listed on the 1950 census of Ely as 22 years old, employed as a machine helper with the railroad. His wife, Nevada Lake, was 19 and employed as a drugstore clerk. Their home was at 1004 Murry.

Alexander Lake was the tenth child of John and Mary Bell Lake. He grew up in Evanston, Wyoming. This railroad town had a big impact on the Lake family as their seven sons all worked for the railroad industry, four with the NNRy: John, Thomas, George and Alexander.
A marriage license was applied for by Alexander to marry Bernice G. Geraghty in White Pine County, NV on July 27, 1925. On the 1920 census record he was listed living at home with his mother and six siblings. He was 21 years old and no employment was listed.
The 1930 census records Alex as 29 years old, employed as a brakeman with the NNRy, his wife Bernice G. Lake was 23 and their children were Colleen A. Lake, age 3, and Keith G. Lake, age 2. They lived down the street from his brother George. Also living near Alexander at this time were Thomas J. Duddleson, an 81 year old widower employed as the Superintendent of the NNRy, Ernest E. Jarrett, 64 year old former Master Mechanic of the NNRy who lived in a hotel with his wife and at least twelve other employees of the railroad. The owner of the hotel was Mary E. Rose who was 62 years old.
