In the 1950's, John and his family lived at #3 Circle In McGill. He had been promoted to the position of General Manger, McGill.
In 1961, he was the General Manager at Kennecott Copper Corporation, Western Mine Division, located in Salt Lake City, Utah.
In 1968, with the reorganization of the company, he was transferred to the New York City office.
John was an AIME past trustee, 1956-1959 and 1969-1971.

His father was John Charles Kinnear, Sr, who worked his entire career with Kennecott. His mother was Mary (Lowson) Kinnear.
John attended the schools in McGill and White Pine County High School. In 1930, he graduated from Pomona College, then attended MIT, graduating with a degree in Metallurgy.
In 1938, he married Helen Poor [1917-2010]. Their children were Marcia Kinnear, John C. Kinnear, III and Shelia Kinnear. They lived in McGill, Nevada, Salt Lake City, Utah, and also in New Canaan, Connecticut.
