In 1909, Walter was employed as the assistant to the Nevada Northern agent, E. W. Edwards. Mr. Edwards was put in charge of the railroad matters and Walter was tasked with the telegraph service. Also, that year the NNRy put a telephone in its East Ely station.
By 1912, Walter was promoted position of the New Nevada Northern agent at Copper Flat. He was on of the most skillful telegraphers in Nevada. Two years later he was the telegraph operator on the Oregon Short Line. He enlisted in WWI signal corps. The 1920 census lists Walter was employed by the Nevada Northern was a telephone operator. He also worked as a manager at the Central Theater that his brother Percy Hull built.

Personal Biography:
Edward Hull. In 1918, Sergeant Walter Hull, a member of the WWI signal corps was in the Argonne forest of France and escaped injury until at the end of the fighting when he was gassed and received an injury that needed medical attention. He returned at the end of February, 1919. He was an agent at Ely for the Nevada Northern Railway. He enlisted right after America entered the War. As he was especially qualified for the signal corps, he did not remain long in this country, but soon entered the scene of action on the other side.
Walter married Anna McDonald, who was a nurse. Their children were Warren, Marion Jean (who served in the WWII US Navy, Nurse Corps as CDR) and Lawrence Hull.
He remained popular with the workers of the NNRy and the residents of Ely while he was the manager of the Central Theater.
